“We are the drivers and decision makers of where our energy comes from and where it goes.”

E is for ENERGY.

The definition of energy is the capacity or power to do work.

Everything is energy. We make decisions every day that affect our energy.

As an RN, I clearly value energy and health and all aspects of it: physical, emotional, financial, cognitive, spiritual and social.

The correlation between our energy levels and our capabilities is undeniable. Energy and health go hand in hand, influencing our capacity to engage in life’s activities. It’s important to understand how challenges and losses in our lives affect our energy & health.

Challenging situations can trigger a significant response in our body and nervous system, often referred to as the “fight or flight” response. This stress reaction involves the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, causing increased heart rate, heightened alertness, and the redirection of energy to vital functions. It is what can make someone “freeze” when faced with trauma / danger. Prolonged exposure to such situations can lead to chronic stress, negatively impacting our health.

We are the drivers and decision makers of where our energy comes from and where it goes.

When we have challenges, trauma, or loss, the level of energy (and health) in our daily life can take a dive. We can move from joy to basic survival…from health and energy to exhaustion. This can happen immediately or over weeks, months and even years.

When we feel off balance with any part of our health, it is critical to feed our energy. To implement healthy strategies that help our body recover. For example, walking in nature, eating nutritionally, spending time with others, or tending to our emotional and spiritual needs. All of these actions are a choice we make. They are especially important when times are tough.

Managing and fueling our energy is the force that can support us as we align (or realign) our core values with our newfound meaning and purpose.

Listening to our body and making adjustments in our daily routine is necessary in maintaining the healthy equilibrium needed to keep us going in challenging situations.
